Liposuction

LIPOSUCTION
Fat Removal
Liposuction is an aesthetic surgical procedure in which localized fat deposits that cannot be eliminated with diet and exercise are removed using fine cannulas, reshaping the body. The aim is to eliminate stubborn fat deposits that disrupt body proportions and to achieve a more balanced and harmonious body contour.
For a healthy and satisfying result, it is important that the patient is thoroughly informed about the period before and after surgery and has realistic expectations. At Op. Dr. Mert Seçer’s clinic, the procedure is planned during the examination according to the patient’s body structure, skin quality and expectations.
CAN YOU LOSE WEIGHT WITH LIPOSUCTION?
A Body Contouring Procedure
One of the questions patients ask most often is whether liposuction helps you lose weight. The answer is no: liposuction is not a weight-loss operation but a body contouring operation. The goal is not to reduce the number on the scale but to remove localized fat that spoils the body’s contours.
Liposuction is performed on people who are close to their ideal weight but cannot achieve the body shape they want through exercise and diet. In these patients, stubborn fat deposits are targeted to give the body a more proportionate shape.
Because the fat cells in the treated area are removed permanently, it is very difficult for the same area to accumulate fat again as long as the patient maintains their weight.
WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?
Localized Fat Deposits
- People who are close to their ideal weight or keep their weight stable
- People who cannot achieve the body shape they want despite exercise and diet
- People with good skin elasticity
- People whose general health is suitable for surgery
- People with realistic expectations
In patients with significant skin sagging, liposuction alone may not be sufficient; in this case procedures such as a tummy tuck or an arm lift may be considered.
WHICH AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Treatment Areas
Liposuction can be applied to many areas of the body:
- Abdomen and waist
- Hips and buttocks
- Inner and outer thighs
- Arms
- Back
- Under the chin (double chin)
Whether several areas can be treated in the same session is planned during the examination according to the patient’s condition.
TYPES OF LIPOSUCTION
Laser, VASER and PAL
The basis of liposuction is the removal of fat tissue by vacuum through fine cannulas inserted under the skin. In addition, different technologies are used depending on how the fat is dissolved and removed. The main methods used at our clinic are laser, VASER and power-assisted (PAL) liposuction.
Laser Liposuction
As the name suggests, a laser probe is inserted under the skin and the fat tissue is dissolved by thermal heat. In addition to removing fat, laser liposuction also has a skin-tightening effect.
VASER Liposuction
With the help of ultrasound energy, fat cells are vibrated, broken down and easily removed. Like laser liposuction, VASER liposuction also has a skin-tightening effect.
Power-Assisted (PAL) Liposuction
Cannulas that perform mechanical vibration allow the fat cells to be removed comfortably. It is one of the methods we use at our clinic.
The method and treatment plan best suited to you are determined during the examination according to the location and amount of fat and your skin structure.
AFTER SURGERY
Recovery Process
The anaesthesia method and duration of the procedure are planned individually during the examination.
- After surgery, the treated area is wrapped firmly with a compression garment to help the skin retract; once the patient stands up and starts walking, they switch to wearing a corset.
- Not wearing the corset may lead to an uneven, wavy appearance in the treated area. How long the corset should be worn is determined at follow-up visits.
- Bruising, swelling and numbness may occur in the first weeks; these resolve within a few weeks. Numbness may last a little longer.
RISKS
What You Should Know
As with any surgical procedure, liposuction carries certain risks. Bruising, swelling and temporary numbness are expected. Other possible risks include infection, bleeding, skin irregularities and waviness, asymmetry, fluid accumulation and a result that does not meet expectations. Risks are discussed in detail during the examination, taking into account the patient’s health.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can you lose weight with liposuction?
No. Liposuction is not a weight-loss operation but a body contouring operation. The aim is not weight loss but the removal of localized fat that spoils the body’s contours.
Who is liposuction for?
It is performed on people who are close to their ideal weight but cannot achieve the body shape they want through exercise and diet.
What types of liposuction are there?
The main methods are laser liposuction, VASER liposuction and power-assisted (PAL) liposuction. Laser liposuction works with thermal heat, VASER with ultrasound energy and PAL with mechanical vibration.
What is the difference between VASER and laser liposuction?
In laser liposuction, fat tissue is dissolved by the thermal heat of a laser probe; in VASER liposuction, fat cells are vibrated and broken down with ultrasound energy. Both methods have a skin-tightening effect.
Does the fat come back after liposuction?
Because the fat cells in that area are removed permanently, it is very difficult for the same area to accumulate fat again. Still, keeping your weight stable is important to maintain the result.
How long do I need to wear a corset after liposuction?
The corset is worn once the patient stands up and starts walking. How long it should be worn is determined at follow-up visits.
How long do bruising and numbness last after liposuction?
Bruising, swelling and numbness usually resolve within a few weeks; numbness may last a little longer. No permanent effect is expected.
How long does liposuction take?
The duration and the anaesthesia method vary depending on the number of areas treated and the technique used; they are planned during the examination.
